Description
Yggdrasil Burns can both be described as a standalone game, or as a setting for Mörk Borg. The rules are so adjacent to Mörk Borg that the two are very compatible. But you do not need Mörk Borg to play this game.
The World
When the christian god saw the vikings raiding the monasteries and villages of his worshipers in England and France, his wrath knew no end. And his vengeance was swift.
Fire rained down from the sky, burning all the fields and forests. A pestilence spread among the people of Scandinavia, and the rivers stopped flowing.
The Aesir and Vanir were bound and fettered, and their power over Scandinavia was broken. All is now laid waste, the people dead or dying. The only rain falling is that of ash…
Cursed Skalds in a Cursed World
In this game, the player characters are cursed skalds in a cursed world. They travel through Scandinavia where everything is dead or dying, searching for news about the fettered Aesir and Vanir by investigating rumors about old sagas and myths. Did Sigurd really slay Fafnir? Did Thor really try to catch Jörmungandr with a bull’s head?
In exchange for the tales they tell they get food and shelter in the few places they pass where people still live.
But they must be wary, many monsters roam this cursed world. But ashen storms, disease, poisoned water or raining fire will kill them just as easily. Survival in these burned lands requires not only strength, but also of stealth and wits.
But worst of all – the bishop Ansgar and his priests also travel the land baptizing those few who have survived, and killing those who refuse. If you are baptized, the game is over for you.
Walk a razor thin line to survive while finding out more about the nordic myths and sagas of the viking age. Will you succeed, or will you die…?
(You’ll die, probably more than once…)
