The State of the Cataclysm Spring 2026

Greetings to all our friends and supporters out there. Here's an update on what's been going in with Beyond Cataclysm in the past few months...

What have we been up to?

Airecon

This year's con at Harrogate Convention Centre was an absolute belter, as always! Airecon is such a friendly and enjoyable con. We met loads of great folks and some familiar faces too. Speaking of familiar faces, here we are, sans Dave who had to leave early to go to a Thrice gig. Boring!

Lucky for None in Space FUNDED

Also this past wee while we successfully launched and funded Lucky for None in Space on Kickstarter. We figured since folks ahve enjoyed our daft d13 comedy horror so much why not to a sci-fi spin off. And you all seem to agree - we funded in half an hour! so if you enjoy playing the likes of Death in Space, Mothership and Alien, why not late pledge here now? You'll even get a d13. Everyone needs a d13!

MORK ORG went TO PRINT!

We did it!! After years of work and mo

nths proof-reading of preparing print files this week we finally sent all the print files off to our printers, GOMER. We also ordered the OST Cassette Tapes! The Pledgemanager is coming soon, and you still have time to order this gonza office based comedy horror MORK BORG hack here

The State of the Cataclysm Winter 2025

Greetings Programs!

Welcome to the latest instalment of the State of the Cataclysm blog things, in which we'll give you a brief update on what's happening in the many worlds of Beyond Cataclysm and share some cool stuff we thing you might enjoy.

Dragonmeet

In the last weekend in November we hit the Excel in London, which is the new home of Dragonmeet, the finest one day gaming convention in the world (certainly in the UK!). It was a whirlwind of driving, sleep deprivation and chocolate, but we had a total blast. It's always nice to reconnect with folks we maybe haven't seen since last years Dragonmeet and give hugs the myriad of rpg creators we share this crazy life with. We had famous faces like Chris McDowell, Paolo Greco and Will Rahman swing by to say hi as well. And and this guy, who made a total nuesence of himself and actually lost us at least one MORK BORG sale!

Hellspawn

We're currently crowd funding HELLSPAWN, which is a ghastly MORK BORG hack about demons trying, and failing, to escape the tortures of hell! It's compatible with just about every MB hack you can think of, including our very own MORK ORG. Help us smash a few more stretch goals here before it's too late!

Surprise Mega Bundles

Looking for the perfect Christmas gift for that hard-to-buy-for friend? Look no further! Our Surprise Mega Bundles are now available in values of £25, £50 or £100. They're guaranteed …

The State of the Cataclysm Autumn 2025

Hello friends! What's new with you?

It is truly our hope that this wee update finds you well!

It's a crazy world out there, but the world of books and RPG is cosy and full of good folks who are trying their best to help each other out. Don't be discouraged, be good to each other and if you're feeling lonely or isolated? Why not join us for a chat on our shiny new Discord server (!!!), drop us an email, or find us @beyondcataclysm on all the socials.

Here's some of the stuff we've been up to in recent months:

Tabletop Scotland

As always Tabletop Scotland ranked super high in our 'most enjoyable convention of the year' league. We had a great weekend catching up with old friends, making new friends, selling stock, buying even more things we don't need, drinking copious amounts of coffee and eating donuts. Highlights this year included Chris beating TTS Chief Dave at Dread Ball, Boris GMing us through a disastrous MÖRK BORG adventure (that featured flying French hotpants and characters being choked half to death by toddlers, and a very depressed Ape). We know it's a long way from London but we'd really encourage you to attend next year, it's an amazing con

MÖRK ORG Quickstart Rules available now

If you've been paying any attention to our blogs or social media over the last year or so you'll have seen us mention MÖRK ORG on more than one occasion.  We've been working …

The State of the Cataclysm – Summer 2025

A very warm welcome to this update on all things Beyond Cataclysm - these past few months have been incredibly busy but also super productive. Let's have a look at...

What we've been up to -

MÖRK ORG Layout

The main focus of our time and attention is getting MÖRK ORG to the point where we are ready to go to print. Writing, illustrating and laying out 120 pages of content that meets the high bar set by Johan and Pelle is no mean feat! But we are making progress every since week that goes by and will soon have a quick start PDF available.  Here are some examples of work in progress:

WIP: Layout in Excel is a total nightmare!

CEO Art by Tania Herrero

Writing by CM Lowry with Art by Berti McColl

Office Pirate by Simon Amadeus Pillario

WIP: Writing by Panny Lines with Layout by VISIONS

UK Games Expo

Last weekend we spent a rather sweaty time in the swampy halls of the NEC Birmingham at the UK's largest games event - UKGE. It was dizzying, wonderful, tiring, enriching and an all round excellent experience. We shared the weekend with 20,000 others and it was so great to spend time with friends, old and new alike. Over the course of the weekend Chris had to chance to run an hour long session of MÖRK ORG with friends from across the wider BORG-verse, but more on that later.

What's next -

Here's want you can expect …

The State of the Cataclysm – Spring 2025

What have we been up to?

Contingency & Playtesting

Chris attended Contingency this month and had a total blast meeting folks and playing more games than anyone ever should in a 48 hr period! One of the highlights was Dragonbane.

During the course of the weekend Chris was able to get in a couple of playtest sessions for our new MÖRK ORG games, which we'll be publishing later this year. These went down well and in one game the players decided that, instead of killing the CEO, they'd switch sides and join the evil overlord! You can still back this over on the Mork Org Kickstarter

What's next?

Apart from the obvious work we are continuing to put into writing, collecting contributions and laying out MÖRK ORG we have a number of exciting things on the horizon in the next few months

Airecon

We'll have a stall at Airecon in Harrogate this March. We've just completed a special game that will be given out to every person attending! If your attending come and find us and we'll sign your copy.

Fulfilments

We've got two fulfilments in the short-term pipeline and at least four on the horizon in 2025. Next up is Tribute from Christian Eichhorn. It's been great watching this side of the business really grow over the past year or so. Our favourite part is building relationships with other indie RPG creators and getting to see all the incredibly cool stuff they make. If you receive a fulfilment …

The State of the Cataclysm – Winter 2024

What have we been up to?

MÖRK ORG

Thanks to all of you lovely backers we successfully funded our new game, MÖRK ORG, which is of course a workplace based comedy-horror hack of the horrific MÖRK BORG

If you missed the Kickstarter campaign it's not to late to back, you can do so here

Dragonmeet

We had a blast this month at Dragonmeet, making new friends like Leckie from Bone Chanter, and re-connecting with old friends like John Dodd. If you bought something from us why not share a pic on social media and tag us @beyondcataclysm!

What's next?

Delivering MÖRK ORG & Fulfilment

Once we get back from the festive break we'll be moving straight into completing MÖRK ORG - about 50% of the writing is completed and many of our illustrators have already completed first drafts. The project leads recently met to discuss workflow and timeframes which was a total blast!

We also have a number of upcoming projects to fulfil on behalf of Christian Eichhorn, such as Tribute (which you can still order) and Monochrome (Follow now by clicking 'Notify me on launch'). Watch this space for more excellent MÖRK BORG from Christian soon.

LUCKY FOR NONE In Space

Roll a d13 and see if the engine blows up! We're planning a follow-on adventure to the wildly successful and only d13 game in the world (as far as we know). If you enjoyed dying over and over again in Lucky for None you'll relish …

The State of the Cataclysm – Summer 2023

Hey folks!

Welcome to our State of the Cataclysm update for Summer 2023.

Here's a quick summary of what Beyond Cataclysm has been up to as a company, and then a little about Dave and Chris' exciting lives too!

ISBN COFFEE

It's been an exciting few months here at BC HQ as we launched the pre-release page for ISBN COFFEE.

ISBN COFFEE is a beautiful bag of coffee beans selected for easy, enjoyable drinking, with a companion book dedicated to the fusion of coffee & culture.
We are still looking for art, games and poetry submissions, so check out the submissions page!

Want to know more? Click here to follow the pre-release page for ISBN COFFEE.

Operation S.A.N.T.A.

We also got Operation S.A.N.T.A back from the printers! PDFs and print have been sent out to our Kickstarter backers, and you can check it out yourself by clicking below:

UK Games Expo

We also recently had an amazing time attended the UK Games Expo at the Birmingham NEC, where 190 people bought something from our stall including 77 purchases of our daft one page rpg Bar Fight!

Our next two planned conventions are Tabletop Scotland and Dragonmeet - hopefully we will see some of you there!

Dave has been...

Playing: Ten Pin Bowling. I recently hung out with some very competitive friends at the bowling alley. I decided that instead of getting caught up in the constant one-up-manship I'd bowl a perfect zero. So I did! Proof on …

The State of the Cataclysm – Winter 2023

ISBN COFFEE coming soon...

Finally, we've finally got the prelaunch page for ISBN COFFEE live! Why not follow it?

Chris has been...

Listening: to the debut album from Lucias Malcolm, lead singer of Call Me Malcolm! It's called Past, Present and Future Regrets and you can hear it on bandcamp. Emo-ey punk rock. Good stuff.

Playing: Notorious, an awesome solo bounty hunter game. Lots of fun!

Reading: Stephen King's The Dark Tower series - first time I've got stuck into something of his aside from the seminal book on how to be a writer, called "On Writing" which EVERYONE should read...

Watching: The West Wing. Again. I'm not a big TV person, but this is my second time through the classic early 00s political drama series. My only issue with it is that it makes you believe more deeply and hopefully in politics than is sensible...

Working: Nearly got …

RPG Retreat 2022

This week we took a trip to the mountains for the first annual Beyond Cataclysm RPG Retreat. The plan was to escape for a bit to a beautiful place, and to use that time to rest, and to enjoy good games, good food and good people.

The full gang of us ended up as Anna Blackwell and Panny & Aled from Leyline Press. (And me, Chris Lowry). Don't we look magnificent?

Chris, Anna, Panny & Aled

The Lake District is a decent trek away. The Leyline boys came up from London by car, and Anna jumped on the train down to Kendal where I picked her up.

The weather was... as you'd expect, in the Lake District, in October. Lots of heavy drizzle; a perfect excuse to sit inside playing tabletop roleplaying games for hours on end.

Shadow of Mogg

Our first evening, after a pitch black hunt for Aled & Panny in the damp hills, we settled down to an utterly ridiculous game of Shadow of Mogg, Leyline's mock political anti-game. With a group voting mechanic and an Alice-in-Wonderland approach to a London Underground map, it was deeply stupid and quite a lot of fun.

I played a 96 year old dementia-riddled alternate-universe version of Laura Kuenssberg, and eventually died after being shot by James Bond. It's how she'd have wanted to go.

The History of D&D

We slept long and deep, waking around 10am ready for porridge and coffee. Professor Panny took us through a sort of informal …

The State of the Cataclysm – Summer 2022

What have we been up to?

This is a shorter update, than usual - sadly Dave had to take a three month sabbatical, and Chris had a LOT on in the real world - so things absolutely stagnated during that time.

Happily, he rejoined us in September, so things are picking up nicely, with projects rolling on and stock being uploaded.

For now, check out our store, with all the latest products listed first at this link...

Expect more details in the Autumn update! Talk soon!
