Description
A game about the horror of what lurks in the wilderness around you… and the horror of what lurks inside the deepest part of you. Feral is a horror ttrpg where you’ll survive, build, and – maybe – thrive. This is its quickstart.
In Feral, you play as sage animals – anthropomorphic animals who make their homes in the Deep Dark Woods – as you establish a new village. You aren’t alone in the forest: amongst the thickets of underbrush and the towering, ancient trees lurk the Feral, and the more sage animals gather in one place, the more Feral draw close, attracted by the supply of fresh meat – or perhaps, on some level, recognising kin.
Sage animals are also trying to survive the beast within: the curse of the Feral. Most of the monsters that prey on sage animals are Feral, things that were once intelligent, thinking beings just like them, but who were taken over by their own ravening, cruel natures.
Player characters lead expeditions to found new settlements, then build them up so they’re strong and stable enough to persist for generations.
The Feral quickstart gives you just enough rules to play the game and a scenario that introduces you to the core activities of the game: exploring the Deep Dark Woods, fighting the Feral, and finding – in this case, reclaiming – a possible new home in the forest.
It also introduces some of the core motifs of the game: the fragility of safety, compassion and community, and the fight against the Feral within.
The quickstart comes with five ready-to-play characters who show the range of sage animals and their abilities.
The full Feral book, when it’s ready, will include rules for character creation, monsters (so many monsters) the setting, and how to devise and develop a sage village.
For now – grab a handful of d10s and start playing.
